Facial Rejuvenation

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic acupuncture can be very beneficial for facial rejuvenation, particularly when combined with facial tuina massage. Cosmetic acupuncture and facial tuina are very cost effective and virtually pain free methods of rejuvenating the complexion, with very little risk of any adverse side effects. Facial acupuncture and tuina massage aim to increase blood and qi circulation to the face, eliminate toxins and stimulate the production of new collagen.

Research has shown that acupuncture stimulates the flow of blood and qi through the skin on the face, aids skin hydration, boosts the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the skin, and reduces the signs of ageing. This, in turn, helps to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles and improve the overall appearance and tone of the skin. Deeper wrinkles and bags under the eyes can also be significantly reduced. Sagging jowls, facial puffiness, and droopy eyelids can all benefit from this simple and safe procedure. In fact, this treatment is also known as an ‘acupuncture facelift’, and celebrities such as Madonna, Demi Moore and Victoria Beckham, among others, are all said to use facial acupuncture to help reduce the signs of ageing and maintain their youthful looks.

The Treatment

The treatment involves the insertion of very fine needles to a shallow depth at specific acu-points on and around the face and neck. The ears and body can also be needled to give a more complete, holistic treatment. This will benefit the whole body, not just the facial appearance. Treating the whole person in this way can help to treat the underlying causes of ageing and not just the symptoms. This helps to strengthen the internal weaknesses that contribute to the aging process. However, the face alone can be treated, if the patient wishes, and this generally still produces good results.

Clinical studies published in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture, taken from around 300 cases, showed a 90% improvement after only one course of treatment. A course consists of around ten to twelve individual treatments, with results often noticeable after only five to seven, sometimes sooner.

Taking all of the above information into account makes cosmetic acupuncture a very viable alternative to the more invasive, risky and costly facial procedures of surgery and Botox.
